Bramham CCI4*-L Preview 2026

Three different phases. Three different horses with a case to win. Depending on what you weight most, Cooley Snapchat, Count Onyx, or Greenacres Special Cavalier each have a legitimate argument this week at Bramham.

Selina Milnes
Cooley Snapchat is the top-rated horse in the field.

What it takes to win at Bramham

The average winner scores 28.2 in the dressage and finishes on 29.2. Bubby started last year sub-25. Julia Krajewski delivered a sub-20 start when she won in 2018.

The show jumping picture

Only 29% of Bramham starters have gone clear in the show jumping across all years. In 2025 it was nine from 40. The spread in this field is wide. SJ6 looks at average penalties across a horses last 6 international rounds.

The Cross Country Decider

The all-time XCJ (Cross-Country Jumping) clear rate at Bramham is 54%. Only 17% make the time. Speed and reliability on the hard days is what separates the podium from the field. Charlotte Hutchens has a Cooley Superstar who should be ready for the challenge.

XCJ10 Adj & TSP XCJ10 Adj measures cross-country clear rate against course difficulty — positive means clearing on the days others don’t. TSP is the percentage of rivals a horse has outpaced on its three fastest days in the last 10.

Selina Milnes & Cooley Snapchat

Highest-rated horse in the field and one we have been talking about a lot over the years. Strong show jumper. The one gap is dressage — an expected score of 31.3 puts Milnes likely outside the leading group after phase one, and at Bramham the average winner starts from second or third.

Was fourth here in 2024 with a score of 32.2, jumping clear on both days. Same profile then as now: the dressage is the ceiling.

Laura Collett & Count Onyx

The best cross-country combination in the field that also carries serious overall form. A 6RA of 28.4 puts Collett near the front of the dressage pack. The show jumping is the risk — a +2.21 SJ6 Adj at a venue where fences regularly come down.

Clear cross-country and Count Onyx wins this. A fence down in the arena and that gap closes fast.

Caroline Powell & Greenacres Special Cavalier

The best show jumping record in the field by over a fence. The cross-country numbers back it up. The dressage is where Powell gives up ground — but at Bramham, where the SJ regularly reshuffles the board, that can be recovered.

Mcs Maverick won it with Pippa and returns this year with Piggy March. Cooley Snapchat was fourth here two years ago, clear on both days — the dressage held it back then, same as now. Selina Milnes also finished third at Bramham in 2019 on Iron. She knows this venue and the challenge.
