Who Wins in Washington?
Top Contenders and Rising Stars Take World Cup Stage in Washington
The North American World Cup circuit heads to the historic Washington International Horse Show this weekend, bringing together an intriguing mix of established champions and rising talent.
James Kann Cruz Continues Hot Streak
James Kann Cruz (774) enters Washington riding a wave of impressive performances and remains a constant in the Top 10 Elo-rated horses in the world. After securing seventh place in the first North American World Cup leg and claiming a Grand Prix victory in Traverse City, the combination has proven they're in top form. Even last weekend's four-fault round at Tryon did little to diminish their status as one of the favorites.
Olympic Veteran: Baloutinue
Baloutinue (760) joins James Kann Cruz as one of the highest-rated pairs in the field. While they picked up a rail in the Grand Prix of Tryon last weekend, they did pick up a 155 victory. Their impressive season record & two-time Olympic experience makes them a serious contender for top honors in Washington.
Rising Star to Watch: Lillie Keenan's Kick On
Ten-year-old Kick On (724) is one of the top-rated 10-year-old horses in the world and brings a remarkable perfect record to Washington. This horse has competed in just two 5* 1.60m events, securing a win in the first in the MLSJ Grand Prix of Rockwood and second place in the MLSJ Grand Prix of Greenwich. Combined with Keenan's renowned speed in jump-offs, this partnership could well add another top finish to their growing resume.
Kent Farrington Brings Young Talent
Current North American World Cup League leader Kent Farrington arrives with his promising 9-year-old mount, Myla (715). The young horse ranks among the top five highest-rated 9-year-olds globally, and following Farrington's pattern with young talents, could be auditioning for a trip to Geneva later in the season.
The field also features other notable entries, including Rodrigo Pessoa with Major Tom (694), Daniel Coyle with Incredible (677), last year’s winner Katie Dinan on newer mount, Out Of The Blue SCF (632) and several of America's top riders. This combination of proven partnerships and emerging talent sets the stage for an exciting leg of the World Cup series, where young horses like Kick On and Myla have a genuine opportunity to challenge the sport's established veterans.
