14 Wins and Counting: Lara De Liedekerke-Meier Chases Piggy March's Record

Belgium's Lara De Liedekerke-Meier believes her success is all about numbers—the more horses you ride, the more chances you have to win. But here's the thing about numbers: they don't lie. And right now, they're telling a story of dominance that even the most modest of champions can't deflect.

Lara De Liedekerke-Meier is on the verge of making history. With 14 international wins already secured this season, she sits just one victory away from equalling Piggy March's record of 15 wins in a single season, set in 2019. With Lara’s packed Autumn calendar, she looks poised to not only match but surpass this remarkable achievement.

14 Wins on 9 Different Horses

Lara has demonstrated remarkable versatility, securing victories across nine different horses throughout the season. Two of her victories have come at 4* level, proving once again, her ability to perform at the highest level.

The first 4* triumph came at Montelibretti CCI4*-S with Hooney d'Arville. Impressively, Lara occupied both first and second place on the podium, riding Hooney d'Arville and Origi respectively. Hooney d'Arville jumped double clear to secure the victory - only their second win together, with their first being their unforgettable win at Luhmuhlen 5*.

At Baborowko CCI4*L, De Liedekerke-Meier dominated from start to finish on the 9-year-old gelding Kiarado d'Arville. She produced the only sub-30 dressage score, and the second-fastest cross country time of the day. The show jumping phase proved equally demanding, with no competitor jumping clear - yet Lara maintained her lead throughout. The win represented Kiarado d'Arville’s eighth international victory, but also marked not only the horse's second 4*L format attempt but their first completion at this level, having retired at Boekelo last autumn.

Statistics Behind the Success

From 45 international runs this season, Lara de Liedekerke-Meier has recorded a remarkable 31% win rate. Earlier this year, she attributed her success to the sheer volume of rides, noting:

“If you take into consideration the amount of horses I'm riding per week, I guess I have the highest chance to win some classes. But my horses have been pretty consistent so far."

But the numbers suggest something far more impressive. Among riders with the highest number of international starts, Lara’s win rate stands out significantly — more than 10 percent ahead of her closest rival, Caroline Pamukcu, at 18%. When looking at the riders with the most international wins, Thomas Carlile holds an outstanding 40% win rate but this comes from just 10 runs this season. In contrast, it is Lara’s ability to maintain elite-level results across a much larger campaign that sets her apart.

So yes, volume plays a part — but 14 international wins in a single season speak to far more than just opportunity. They speak to excellence. Lara, feel free to take the credit — you’ve more than earned it.

Looking Ahead

Lara was kind enough to share a glimpse into her busy autumn calendar — next up is Avenches with six horses, including a Nations Cup run. Her major targets for the Autumn include the FEI Eventing European Championships at Blenheim, as well as Boekelo and Le Lion d’Angers. True to form, she remains humble about her chances, saying more than once that she’s not sure she’ll win. But if the stats are anything to go by, we think she’s got every reason to believe.

Chasing History

Whether she matches Piggy’s record or beats it, De Liedekerke-Meier has already proven herself as one of the most dominant athletes in international eventing. This isn’t her first time in the spotlight either — she topped the wins chart last season with 9 victories. With 14 already on the board this year and no one within striking distance, she’s on course for a historic double. And if she goes all the way? It would be a record-breaker worthy of the headlines.
