From Highlands Cup Honor Roll to MLSJ's Most Reliable Combination

Daniel Bluman and Corbie V.V. cleared Round 1 at last year's Highlands Cup Grand Prix as one of the Honor Roll's 12 jump-off qualifiers, and return to Amenia with eleven clear first rounds in fourteen MLSJ starts overall, a record no other combination in the series has come within three of.

Corbie V.V.’s finish in last October’s Grand Prix at Amenia

Daniel Bluman and Corbie V.V. won the 5* Grand Prix of Greenwich two weekends ago with a double clear, the eleventh clear first round the pair has produced in an MLSJ Grand Prix. No other combination in the series has managed more than eight. The result sheet just counts the wins, but eight says plenty about how consistent this partnership has become.

Corbie V.V. and Bluman were last seen at Keane Stud in October, clearing Round 1 of the Highlands Cup Grand Prix and going on to finish ninth, one of only twelve combinations to reach the jump-off that day. Twelve months and six MLSJ starts later, they return to the Highlands Cup with more clear first rounds than any other combination in the series.

Thirteen of their 14 starts have finished inside the top 12, eleven of them built on a clear first round. Two wins came at opposite ends of the record, Rockwood in 2025 and Greenwich last weekend, with a string of top-10 finishes filling in the gaps. The one outlier came at Rockwood in August 2024, when 22 faults left them 31st, but it stands out precisely because of how rarely they have had a day like it.

The combinations with the most Round 1 clears

No other combination in MLSJ’s history has produced more than eight clear first rounds. Corbie V.V. is three clear of the field, and the only horse on this list with more than ten starts to jump clear more often than not.

★ Cleared Round 1 at the 2025 Highlands Cup Grand Prix, one of the original twelve to reach the jump-off in Amenia.

The Highlands Cup connection: Corbie V.V. was one of only eight combinations to clear Round 1 and reach the jump-off at Amenia last October, finishing ninth. Since then, the pair has added four more clear first rounds and a second MLSJ Grand Prix win.

This year’s Highlands Cup runs October 8 through 12 at Keane Stud, the fourth leg of Major League Show Jumping’s new season. Bluman and Corbie V.V. will arrive with a Greenwich win behind them and a number of clears no combination in the series has matched. They already made the jump-off in Amenia once. Now they return to Keane Stud with another opportunity to make their mark on the Highlands Cup.
