Guerdat's Double, America's Clean Sheet, and One Week to Aachen

Every nation heading to Aachen already knows its team. Definite entries closed on 27 July, so nobody picked up a start this weekend. What London and Dublin produced instead was the last hard evidence of form before the travel begins, three results, three different winners, and one rider who turned up twice.

Steve Guerdat helped Switzerland to bronze in Dublin's Nations Cup on Friday, then went out on the same horse on Sunday and won the Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland. Christian Kukuk won the Grand Prix at the Longines Global Champions Tour stop in London on the same afternoon, and the United States closed out the Aga Khan Trophy without dropping a rail across two rounds earlier on Friday. None of it changes who is going to Aachen. All of it says something about who arrives in form.

LGCT Grand Prix of London

Christian Kukuk won the Grand Prix at London's Global Champions Tour leg on Sunday, jumping Checker 47 clear and fastest of a 14-combination jump-off in 42.14 seconds. Scott Brash was 0.18 seconds slower on Hello Folie for second, and Harry Charles took third for Britain on Ballypatrick Tiberius. Sandra Auffarth and Maximilian Weishaupt filled fourth and fifth, both German, both clear.

Nine of the 40 starters jumped double clear to qualify for the jump-off, with five more combinations adding faults in the jump-off. Kukuk beat a field that also included Henrik von Eckermann, Christian Ahlmann and Edwina Tops-Alexander.

Nations' Cup of Ireland, the Aga Khan Trophy

The United States won Friday's Aga Khan Trophy, closing on zero penalties. Karl Cook and Caracole de la Roque and Paris Sellon and Chad Blue PS went double clear, and Natalie Dean's clean first round on Mr Boombastic, along with Laura Kraut's clean second round on Baloutinue, sealed the victory. Ireland finished second at home on four penalties, with Daniel Coyle and Farrel, along with Jordan Coyle and Chaccolino, both jumping double clear rounds. Switzerland took bronze on eight, anchored by a double clear from Steve Guerdat and Albfuehren's Iashin Sitte, two days before the same pair won the Grand Prix.

The field carried a strength rating of 701, and 14 of the 31 individual first rounds jumped clear, a 45% clear rate.

Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland

Steve Guerdat won the Grand Prix on Sunday, jumping Albfuehren's Iashin Sitte clear and fastest of four double-clear jump-off rounds in 37.81 seconds. Jordan Coyle was second again, this time individually, clear on Chaccolino in 39.27 seconds, with Arne van Heel third for the Netherlands on Keaton HV and Michaeli Byrne fourth on MSH Claregalway to complete the top four. All four jump-off placings were decided purely on the clock, with 6.46 seconds separating first from fourth.

Career figures reflect each combination's record at 5-star and major championship 1.60m level in individual competition including this weekend.

Van Heel and Byrne made the case for the day mattering more than the record book. Neither horse had won or podiumed at this level before Sunday, and Keaton HV's career clear rate at 1.60m sat at 25% coming in. Both still out-jumped a 40-strong field to reach the top four, decided on time against horses with much more experience.

Guerdat's double

Albfuehren's Iashin Sitte carried one of the highest Elos and clear rates of any horse across both Dublin classes, and Guerdat used both days to prove it. A double clear anchored Switzerland's bronze on Friday, then another clear on Sunday, followed by the fastest jump-off, won the Grand Prix outright. He came into the weekend with three wins and seven podiums at this level. He leaves with a fourth win and eighth podium.

Ireland had its own weekend to point to. Jordan Coyle and Chaccolino went clear in every round they jumped across three days, a Nations Cup double clear on Friday and an individual runner-up finish on Sunday. Daniel Coyle's Farrel supplied the only other Irish double clear of the Nations Cup, and his Elo climbed from 735 to 745 over the two rounds. Ireland had plenty to celebrate in Dublin, with the two Coyles and Michaeli Byrne delivering top results across the weekend.

London's field belonged to the Global Champions Tour circuit, Dublin's belonged to teams already locked for August 19th. Both give riders, teams and grooms one final read on the horses they are trusting when the World Championships begin.
