Two five-star Grands Prix took place on the same Saturday, with a jump-off in Monaco and a two-round test in Calgary deciding the winners.

De Freitas Barcha and Dinozo Imperio Egipcio win in Monaco

Stephan de Freitas Barcha and Dinozo Imperio Egipcio won the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco on Saturday, producing the fastest of five clear rounds in a nine-horse jump-off. The combination clocked 35.40 seconds to finish just ahead of Piergiorgio Bucci and Pallieter vd N.Ranch (0 faults, 35.60), with Christian Ahlmann and Untouched LB third on 0 faults in 36.18. It is the first 5* 1.60m Grand Prix win for De Freitas Barcha and Dinozo Imperio Egipcio together.

Dinozo Imperio Egipcio carries an Elo of 742, sitting just inside the top 10 in the field. Piergiorgio Bucci’s Pallieter vd N.Ranch was right behind on Elo, at 741, and finished right behind Dinozo in the placings too, in second. Scott Brash and Hello Chadora Lady, the highest-rated horse in the field on 765, picked up four faults in round one and finished 14th.

Alrajhi and Ventago are the only double clear in Calgary

Abdulrahman Alrajhi and Ventago won the ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows on Saturday, the only combination in the 40-strong field to jump both rounds clean. Daniel Coyle and Farrel took second on 4 faults, with Daniel Bluman and Corbie V.V. third, also on 4. It is Ventago’s first win of the past 12 months on the EquiRatings file, adding to three podium finishes over that period.

Ventago carries an Elo of 659, well back from the top of the field. Mark Bluman and Landon de Nyze, rated highest at 745, did not feature in the placings. Richard Vogel and Gangster Montdesir, who arrived with the field’s standout current-form score, added 12 faults across the two rounds to finish eighth.
