Five rounds at the World Championships in Aachen. Five clears. Steve Guerdat and Dynamix de Belheme left Germany in August with individual gold, and the Swiss pair are among the entries for Verona this week featuring Sunday’s Longines FEI Jumping World Cup.
Verona is the third leg of the Western European League, a week after Lyon. Last year’s winners, Daniel Deusser and Otello de Guldenboom, are entered again. Entries are still provisional, and several of the leading riders have more than one horse on the list.
The champion
Dynamix de Belheme has jumped clear in 39 of 60 rounds at CSI5* 1.60m. On those same courses, the average horse went clear 30% of the time. That puts them 21 clears above expectation, the biggest margin of any horse entered.
The record behind it: 5 wins and 15 podiums from 44 classes, including the Falsterbo Nations Cup in July and world gold in August. Guerdat also has Albfuehren’s Iashin Sitte (Elo 756) entered, a horse that won the World Cup in Helsinki last season.
The defending champion
Deusser and Otello de Guldenboom won here last November in a jump-off, clear in 36.13 seconds. At 769, Otello has the second-highest Elo on the entry list. The pair won team gold with Germany at Aachen and finished sixth individually.
The first-round hurdle
That puts a premium on the horses who leave the fences up. Two in the field stand apart: Dynamix de Belheme at 65% and Gangster Montdesir at 59%.
