The Longines FEI World Cup Finals had the entire jumping world in a chokehold this past week. A terrific week of jumping that was reflected in the EquiRatings Jumping Elo ratings and has brought along some interesting changes.

After winning his second consecutive World Cup Finals title, Henrik von Eckermann&rsquo;s King Edward has boosted his Elo to new heights. He already held the record for highest Elo ever recorded when he entered the competition on 810, but a foot-perfect campaign in Riyadh has allowed him to boost his Elo by a whopping 9 points, completing and setting a new record Elo of 819.
King Edward is one of just three horses that have ever passed the 800 mark on the Elo ratings and the only horses to ever go higher than 804, achieved by Explosion W in 2021 and Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z early in 2023.&nbsp;

 The just nine-year-old Casual DV Z was the youngest horse in the field at World Cup Finals in Riyadh this week. Thanks to a superb performance, with a highlight in Final II where the young mare produced one of just four double clears, Pieter Devos finished eighth in the overall championship.&nbsp;
Quite an achievement for a horse of that age, that has made her the biggest Elo climber of the week, boosting her Elo by 26 points. Currently on an Elo of 716, she is the first nine-year-old horse to pass the 700 Elo barrier this year and so strengthens her position as the current highest-rated nine-year-old horse in the world.
An accomplishment made even more special by the fact that Casual DV Z was&nbsp;bred by Pieter himself and he competed her mother, Just Me D, at the highest level himself too.

A bittersweet weekend for Kent Farrington in Riyadh, as he finished just beside the podium in fourth place at the World Cup Finals. Still an admirable performance from his 10-year-old mare Greya who produced some solid rounds which boosted her Elo by 10 points. A boost that allowed her to climb up the rankings and on 743 sees her overtake Zineday as the highest-rated 10-year-old horse in the world right now.&nbsp;
Kent chose to ride another 10-year-old in Final I, Toulayna, whose performance also allowed her to raise her Elo to 742, which makes her the joint second-highest rated 10-year-old.

Elo Movers: A Record & Two New Leaders

Olympic team gold, World Championship double gold, the highest-rated horse (810) since ratings began and now on the cusp of becoming a back-to-back World Cup Champion.
 King Edward is already a horse that we will talk about for generations, but what he achieves over the next few seasons will determine how many future generations hold him in the same regard. Back-to-back World Cup championships is a very valid notch on the CV of these generational greats.
 To appreciate the challenge he faces, the EquiRatings prediction centre has quantified the task ahead. Even after his opening wins on the first two days of the finals, the King has only just moved the odds in his favour (54%) in terms of it being 'more likely than not' (50%) that he will win.

Julien Epaillard &amp; Dubai du Cedre put in a very fast round which would have put them in silver medal position if not for one rail knocked. Nevertheless, this competive pair still enter Day 2 in joint fourth position.

A perfect start for the Swedish team with both their riders leading the championship. Peder Fredricson and the 18-year-old Catch Me Not S have put in a strong performance which sees them entering the second day of competition in second place in the standings.

A strong performance in the first qualifier for Ben Maher and his superb mare Dallas Vegas Batilly that has been slightly clouded by knocking the second to last fence. It is however far from over for this combination as they currently stand 6th in the provisional ranking.

Riyadh 2024: It's King Edward's Championship to Lose

Julien Epaillard won't be making the reigning Champions, Henrik von Eckermann &amp; King Edward, challenge of defending their title easy. The two combinations come in on identical win chances. Over half of the last 10 winners of the Longines FEI World Cup Finals were winners on the first day of this championship.

Julien Epaillard is known as one of the quickest riders on the circuit. With Dubai du Cedre, he has won a number of upper-level Grand Prix. Late last year, this pair won the Grand Prix in Lyon and followed it with a runner-up position in the World Cup the next day. Knowing that over half of the last 10 winners of the World Cup Finals have led after Day 1, Julien &amp; Dubai are the ones to watch!

One of the oldest horses in the field with a wealth of experience behind him. Back in 2019, this pair already finished on the podium at their home World Cup Finals in Gothenburg. This World Cup season, they also finished third in their home leg in Gothenburg. Will they manage to translate their Gothenburg success to Riyadh?

Ben Maher has been on superb form these past months. On Dallas Vegas Batilly, he won the Verona leg of the World Cup circuit and also finished on the podium in Lyon. They then continued their success over in the USA for the Winter Equestrian Festival where they finished fifth in the final Rolex Grand Prix at their last outing.&nbsp;

Riyadh 2024: Von Eckermann versus Epaillard for Favourites ahead of World Cup Finals

The first three months of the year gave us some incredible moments. In the newest show on the EquiRatings Jumping Podcast, presented by Achieve Equine, Sam Watson, Diarm Byrne and Charlotte Smet discuss their favourite moments, the highest-rated horses, the biggest improvers and the horses that have shown the strongest five-star 160 form.

When we look at the Top 20 Elo-rated horses, we turned our attention to those that have produced at least one clear round at five-star 160 level in 2024.
King Edward still sits comfortably at the top on his throne on a record-breaking ever of 810.
A strong start of the year for Martin Fuchs' Leone Jei who makes his entrance in the Top 10 for the first time in his career. An incredible start of the season which is promising in an Olympic year.&nbsp;
The French speed-demon, Julien Epaillard, has two horses in the Top 10. Between Dubai du Cedre and Donatello d'Auge, who would make the cut to represent France at their home Olympics?
Daniel Coyle's Legacy has been on stellar form over the past couple of months which, if continued, could threaten James Kann Cruz's position as highest-rated Irish horse.

A new year means new heights to be reached. 
Callie Schott's&nbsp;Garant is the biggest Elo climber of the first quarter of 2024 within the Top 100. A pair that has represented Team USA in the inaugural Longines League of Nations and that produced a stellar Grand Prix performance in Ocala.
While his top-rated mount takes it slow, Harrie Smolder's Uricas vd Kattevennen had time to prove his worth in the spotlight. And prove it, he did. A podium finish in the Rolex Grand Prix of 's Hertogenbosch, followed by a double clear in the LLN of Ocala have helped Uricas climb up the ratings.
One of the most promising young horses in the sport currently comes once more from the tutelage of Shane Sweetnam. The 10-year-old RR Combella has already collected two Top 5 spots in prestigious Grand Prixs throughout the first quarter.

Two horses have started the year on a perfect run.
Daniel Coyle's Legacy produced back-to-back World Cup wins and has yet to touch a rail at five-star 160 level in 2024.&nbsp;
The same goes for Martin Fuchs' Leone Jei, who we already mentioned as a newcomer in the Top 10 Elo-rated horses.
As Olympic years go, there is no better start than this.

A great weekend for Eduardo Alvarez Aznar as his two horses are the biggest Elo climbers after a successful weekend in Miami Beach for the second leg of the 2024 season of the Longines Global Champions Tour.

On D&rsquo;Orient Batilly, Eduardo jumped clear in the GCL Round 1 on Friday after finishing second in the 150 class on Saturday. This boosted his Elo by 23 points and allowed him to reach the 700 Elo barrier for the first time.

The 19-year-old Rokfeller de Plevile Bois Margot jumped clear over fences in GCL Round 2 before jumping clear in a tough LGCT Grand Prix to finish fourth. An Elo boost of 19 points consolidates his position as the highest-rated horse in Spain. He is also the only 19-year-old horse in the world to have jumped at least 3 clears at 5* 160 level in the last 12 months.
Only 1 other horse of that age has competed at the five-star level in 2024 so far. Bull Run&rsquo;s Faustino de Tili competed in the five-star at Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington this winter, but only hhas an Elo of 463, 259 Elo points less than Rokfeller.

Simon Delestre&rsquo;s I.Amelusina R51 also jumped clear in that LGCT Grand Prix in Miami to finish 6th. This boosted his Elo by 16 points to complete the weekend on an Elo of 704.

Julien Anquetin&rsquo;s Blood Diamond du Pont finished on the podium in Miami to boost his Elo by 12 points. He completed the weekend on an Elo of 750, which means he is the third highest-rated horse in France.

The youngest climber in this list is Shane Sweetnam&rsquo;s RR Combella. A clear in Friday&rsquo;s Qualifier, followed by a clear in the Grand Prix has boosted RR Combella&rsquo;s Elo by 10 points. This means RR Combella is just 1 point away from becoming the highest-rated 10-year-old horse in the world.&nbsp;

McLain Ward&rsquo;s Ilex is the biggest Elo climber of the weekend. In just their second 5* Grand Prix together, they produced a stellar double clear to finish in second place behind Christian Kukuk and Checker 47. A super result for this pair so early on their partnership that offered Ilex an 18 point Elo boost. He now has an Elo of 720, just on the cusp of entering the Top 100 Elo-rated horses.
A great weekend on home soil for the US horses and riders. Laura Kraut&rsquo;s Bisquetta is just 10 years of age and had a super round in the 5* Rolex Grand Prix at WEF and finished in 8th place. This boosted Bisquetta&rsquo;s Elo by 15 points. On an Elo of 706, she is now one of the Top 10 highest-rated 10-year-olds in the world.&nbsp;
Another up and coming 10-year-old had a great weekend in Wellington. Petronella Andersson&rsquo;s Odina van Klapscheut finished 5th in the WEF Challenge Cup which boosted Odina&rsquo;s Elo by 14 points to 704.
A fruitful weekend for new partnerships in Wellington, where also Peder Fredricson had a good show with a newer horse to his string. He has only been paired with Alcapone des Carmille for 3 months, but they finished 6th in the WEF Challenge Cup and boosted Alcapone&rsquo;s Elo by 13 points.
Daniel Bluman&rsquo;s Ladriano Z is the biggest climber of the world&rsquo;s Top 100 Elo-rated horses. A fourth place finish in the Rolex Grand Prix boosted Ladriano&rsquo;s Elo by 10 points.

Elo Movers & Shakers: Ilex & Bisquetta boost US ratings

<h2>The Five Biggest Elo Climbers</h2>
Callie Schott&rsquo;s Garant is the biggest Elo mover of the weekend. After a Top 10 finish in the Grand Prix Qualifier on Wednesday, the pair managed to finish 3rd in the five-star Grand Prix at the Longines League of Nations in Ocala. This boosted Garant&rsquo;s Elo by 18 points and sees him on an all-time high of 725.
Another big boost for a US horse. Laura Kraut and Baloutinue had a great weekend in Ocala where they finished 6th in the Grand Prix and produced the only double clear for Team USA in the League of Nations. A 12 point boost sees Baloutinue enter the Top 15 Elo-rated horses in the world.
Steve Guerdat&rsquo;s Is-Minka produced a crucial double clear to help the Swiss team claim silver in the Longines League of Nations in Ocala. A performance that boosted Is-Minka&rsquo;s Elo by 12 points.&nbsp;
Shane Sweetnam&rsquo;s RR Combella is the youngest Elo climber of the week. A double clear and 4th place finish in the 5* Grand Prix boosted their Elo by 11 points.
Bardolina 2 finished 8th in the WEF11 Challenge Cup, followed by a 2nd place finish in the 4* Grand Prix in Wellington which resulted in a 10 point Elo boost which has allowed Bardolina to re-enter the Top 100 Elo-rated horses.

<h2>Changes in the Top 10</h2>
Beauville Z N.O.P. produced a lovely double clear in the League of Nations for the Dutch team that unfortunately finished just beside the podium in fourth place. This gave Beauville an Elo boost of 5 points, which was enough to put him in in the Top 3 highest-rated horses in the world, taking over that title from Peder Fredricson&rsquo;s Hansson &amp; Steve Guerdat&rsquo;s Dynamix de Belheme.
The star of the weekend and a newcomer to the Top 10 highest-rated horses in the world is Martin Fuchs&rsquo; Leone Jei. After winning the Grand Prix on Thursday, Leone Jei produced a crucial double clear for the Swiss team that helped them secure the second place.&nbsp;

Elo Movers & Shakers: Big Boosts in the USA & Changes in the Top 10

We are on the other side of yet another thrilling weekend of jumping action. These are the biggest Elo climbers of the weekend.

Marcel Gonzalez Dufrane's Hortensia van de Leeuwerk is the biggest Elo mover of the week. The pair won the five-star Grand Prix in Coapexpan and boosted their Elo by 23 points and found themselves back in the 700 bracket. She is the second-highest Elo-rated horse in Mexico (behind Eugenio Garza Perez' Contago on 744).
A superb start to 2024 for Sanne Thijssen&rsquo;s Con Quidam RB who at 18 years of age, won two classes at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera. After winning Friday&rsquo;s 150 GP Qualifier, they also took the win in the 155 Grand Prix. This boosted their Elo by 21 points, seeing them break the 700 Elo barrier once more.
Another 21 point Elo boost comes from Rene Lopez&rsquo;s Kheros van &lsquo;t Hoogeinde. After a third place finish in the 5* Grand Prix at the Saut Hermes show in Paris, Kheros has built his Elo up to 709. He is now the highest-rated horse in Colombia.
After finishing second in the CSI4* Grand Prix at the Desert Horse Park in Thermal, Ali Ramsay's Bonita van het Keizershof Z boosted her Elo by 13 points and is now one of eight Canadian horses to have an Elo of over 700.
The winner of that four-star Grand Prix in Thermal also had a significant boost to their Elo. Ingrid Gjelsten and VDL Edgar M won their second Grand Prix of the circuit and grew Edgar's Elo by another 13 points, solidifying his position as the highest-rated horse in Norway.

Elo Movers & Shakers: Hortensia Ahead

A great weekend of thrilling competition throughout the world. The Rolex Grand Slam took place in &lsquo;s Hertogenbosch, while the Winter Equestrian Festival geared up for their ninth week of upper-level competition. Who&rsquo;s up and who&rsquo;s down according to the EquiRatings Jumping Elo?

Uricas vd Kattevennen is the biggest Elo gainer of the past weekend after a great performance from the Dutch duo on home soil in &lsquo;s Hertogenbosch. A seventh place in Friday&rsquo;s Qualifier &amp; a third place in the Rolex Grand Prix has allowed Uricas to enter the Top 100 Elo-rated horses in the world. He is now the fourth highest-rated horse in the Netherlands.&nbsp;
