Sweden, led by the phenomenal combination of King Edward and Henrick Von Eckermann (the highest rated in the world on Elo), have been a dominant force in recent years. They hold the European, World, and Olympic titles, a testament to their unrivalled consistency. However, the pressure of maintaining their winning streak could be a double-edged sword.
<h3>Potential Contenders and Dark Horses</h3>
Favourites aside, teams like France, Belgium, and Germany bring their own strengths to the table. France, competing on home soil, and Belgium, both have a mix of experienced riders and promising newcomers, making them two teams to watch. The competition format plays a crucial role in determining the outcomes. All 20 teams will compete in a team qualifier tomorrow, where every rider's score counts. The top 10 teams advance to the final on Friday, starting from zero, intensifying the competition. This format leaves no room for error, emphasizing the need for consistent and reliable performances from all team members. The first horse comes into the ring at 11am C.E.T tomorrow, Thursday, to kick-start the action.&nbsp;

With the sixth leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour taking place in Saint-Tropez, a slightly revised version of the LLN taking place in Sankt Gallen, as well as four-star action in Devon, these are the biggest movers of the week.

This pair didn't knock a single rail throughout their campaign at the LGCT of Saint Tropez. They helped the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames claim victory in the Global Champions League. The following day, they left all fences up in the LGCT Grand Prix, but an unfortunate time penalty kept them out of the jump-off and saw them finish in 6th place.
This boosted Imagine's Elo by 23 points. On an Elo of 707, they are now the 5th highest-rated horse in the Netherlands.

One of the strongest combinations of 2023 is making a comeback just in time for their home Olympics. With a third place in the Grand Prix qualifier, followed by a second place in the Grand Prix of Saint Tropez, Cayman Jolly Jumper has boosted his Elo by 13 points. On an Elo of 754, he is now a part of the Top 25 highest-rated horses in the world.

Elo Movers: Imagine Shines in Saint Tropez

A total of 24 horses have yet to be faulted at five-star 160 level in 2024 to date.&nbsp;

Only two horses in the entire world have jumped FIVE five-star 160 rounds and have remained clear in all of them.
Martin Fuchs' Leone Jei was the first to reach this milestone this season. 
After a clear in the LLN Ocala Grand Prix and claiming victory, he also produced a double clear round for the Swiss team in the Longines League of Nations. A couple of weeks later, the pair produced another clear in the Rolex Grand Prix of Windsor, another Grand Prix they went on to win.
Max K&uuml;hner's Elektric Blue P jumped his first five-star 160 of the year in the Rolex Grand Prix of Windsor, where they finished inside the Top 10.
Their peak event however was the Rome Piazza di Siena show, where the pair produced a double clear in the Nations Cup on Friday, followed by a double clear in the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday and finishing on the podium.

Salim Ahmed Al Suwaidi &amp; Foncetti vd Heffinck have only formed a combination for a couple of months.
They competed in their first five-star 160 class just last week at the CSIO Rome. They produced a solid clear round in the first round of the Nations Cup. Unfortunately, the UAE team failed to qualify for the second round which left Salim &amp; Foncetti without a chance to attempt the double clear. They did make it up however, by also producing a double clear in Sunday's Rolex Grand Prix.
A promising start for this young combination.

A double clear in the Nations Cup gave Aaron Vale&rsquo;s Carissimo 25 a significant boost to his Elo. Up by 30 points, the chestnut gelding has now surpassed the 700 Elo mark.

There was no British team in the Nations Cup in Rome, but Joe Stockdale and Equine America Cacharel delivered a double clear in Sunday&rsquo;s Rolex Grand Prix to finish just beside the podium in fourth place. This boosted Cacharel&rsquo;s Elo by 26 points up to 714, which puts this combination in a very interesting position for the British team ahead of the Paris Olympics.

At just nine years old and at his five-star Nations Cup debut, Kendra Claricia Brinkop&rsquo;s Tabasco de Toxandria delivered a foot-perfect double clear to help the German team win the Rome Nations Cup. This improved Tabasco&rsquo;s Elo by 18 points and puts him on a current Elo of 721, which is just 4 points away from becoming the highest-rated nine-year-old horse in the sport.

Each horse starts their Elo rating on the same entry level on an Elo of just above 500.
Every time they compete in a CSI4* or CSI5* competition at 150 level or higher, they can either win or lose points.
The level of competition also determines how many points would be lost or gained. A five-star 160 class will carry more weight than a four-star 150 class.

Elo loss or gain depends on their finishing position in a class, as well as who they beat and/or are beaten by.
Beating a horse with a high Elo will give you more points than beating a horse with a lower Elo rating. Being beaten by a horse with a high Elo will cost you less points than being beaten by a horse with a low Elo rating.

The Elo rating system has a predictive value. The higher a horse&rsquo;s Elo, the higher the chance is that this horse will jump clear.
This equally means that the higher a horse&rsquo;s Elo, the lower the penalties they will incur.&nbsp;

The Elo rating&rsquo;s predictive value can be extremely valuable for team selections.&nbsp;
Most importantly, the Elo rating&rsquo;s power comes from its excitement factor. Where do the winners come from? Were they shoe-ins at the start of the competition, where they predicted to perform well? Or were they more of an underdog? 
Thanks to the EquiRatings Elo rating, these narratives make the sport approachable and more easily understandable to fans, which in turn generates excitement to feel and experience the sport.

Giulia Martinengo Marquet&rsquo;s Delta Del&rsquo; Isle was the biggest Elo climber of the weekend after a successful weekend in Windsor with two Top 5 placings including a 5th place in the Rolex Grand Prix. This boosted Delta&rsquo;s Elo by 29 points to become the second highest-rated Italian horse in the world.

Elo Movers: An Emerging Talent for Italy

The Longines FEI World Cup Finals had the entire jumping world in a chokehold this past week. A terrific week of jumping that was reflected in the EquiRatings Jumping Elo ratings and has brought along some interesting changes.

After winning his second consecutive World Cup Finals title, Henrik von Eckermann&rsquo;s King Edward has boosted his Elo to new heights. He already held the record for highest Elo ever recorded when he entered the competition on 810, but a foot-perfect campaign in Riyadh has allowed him to boost his Elo by a whopping 9 points, completing and setting a new record Elo of 819.
King Edward is one of just three horses that have ever passed the 800 mark on the Elo ratings and the only horses to ever go higher than 804, achieved by Explosion W in 2021 and Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z early in 2023.&nbsp;

 The just nine-year-old Casual DV Z was the youngest horse in the field at World Cup Finals in Riyadh this week. Thanks to a superb performance, with a highlight in Final II where the young mare produced one of just four double clears, Pieter Devos finished eighth in the overall championship.&nbsp;
Quite an achievement for a horse of that age, that has made her the biggest Elo climber of the week, boosting her Elo by 26 points. Currently on an Elo of 716, she is the first nine-year-old horse to pass the 700 Elo barrier this year and so strengthens her position as the current highest-rated nine-year-old horse in the world.
An accomplishment made even more special by the fact that Casual DV Z was&nbsp;bred by Pieter himself and he competed her mother, Just Me D, at the highest level himself too.

A bittersweet weekend for Kent Farrington in Riyadh, as he finished just beside the podium in fourth place at the World Cup Finals. Still an admirable performance from his 10-year-old mare Greya who produced some solid rounds which boosted her Elo by 10 points. A boost that allowed her to climb up the rankings and on 743 sees her overtake Zineday as the highest-rated 10-year-old horse in the world right now.&nbsp;
Kent chose to ride another 10-year-old in Final I, Toulayna, whose performance also allowed her to raise her Elo to 742, which makes her the joint second-highest rated 10-year-old.
